A 50-minute Live Online session during which we move through a mock interview, stopping after each question to evaluate every answer for its strengths and weaknesses in terms of brevity, spin, word choice, tone, body language, etc., and refining it for effectiveness. During the session we will walk you through a range of questions typical of a live academic online, phone and conference interview as well as address any concerns you may have about the particular institution where you are interviewing. This is prep for the interview PRECEDING the campus visit.

If you don’t understand the job talk or you’re not sure what your talk should focus on, this 40-minute Live Online session focuses on helping you plan and organize your job talk, targeting the match between your research and the job at hand. We will walk you through the mission, ethos, structure and goals of a Job Talk with SPECIFIC attention to your research as it relates to the job call. Very specific guidelines on what you need to be sure to include and avoid in all the sections. THIS IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO NEED TO WRITE A TALK AND NEED HELP CONCEPTUALIZING IT. Most job talks miss the mark badly in terms of focus and organization, so this will make sure every word you prepare for the talk is targeted to the field and the specific job. You can combine this with an edit of the talk itself by Dr. Karen and Team, or practice with a Job Talk Intervention (see below).To schedule with

Time permitting, I edit job talks. JT editing takes into account both general presentation principles as well as any specific instructions you have been given. I read for professionalism of approach, clarity and organization, persuasiveness, quality of evidence and argumentation, balance of data and theory, and soundness of conclusion. Job Talk editing requires two hours at $200/hour, totaling $400, plus a special reduced overflow fee of $100 when short-notice is required (and an overflow slot is available), for a total of $600. This preparation service includes a 60 minute or 75 minute Live Online session during which you will deliver parts of your job talk, and your coach will stop you along the way to evaluate for strengths and weaknesses in terms of professionalism of approach, clarity, brevity, word choice, tone, body language, etc., refining for effectiveness. During the session your coach will also walk you through how to manage the treacherous Q and A after the talk–from practicing for the kinds of questions to expect, to how to handle the audience, and importantly, how to handle challenging, critical, or inappropriate questions. You must provide your coach with your script to read through 24 to 48 hours prior to your live session.

In this 50 minute session, we will walk step-by-step through each appointment and social engagement of your campus visit, discussing what to expect, what to ask and what to avoid. We work on changing your message for different audiences as well as strategies for showcasing your fit. Just as with the Interview intervention we pay close attention to brevity, word choice, tone, body language, etc., and refining your delivery for effectiveness. We will practice key questions and discuss how to manage the social aspects of the visit. YOUR VISIT ITINERARY IS REQUIRED.

Please let us know ASAP if you have purchased or would like to purchase the recording, as session recordings are automatically deleted from our cloud within 7 days. Teaching Demonstration Documents Review. We review your lesson plans and make suggestions and edits. This includes three drafts of edits. The cost depends on how long your lesson plans are. Document reviews are $150/hour. 1-2 page lesson plan will take 2 hours; 3-6 pages will take 3 hours and 7-12 pages will take 4 hours. There is a 10% discount for 3-4 hours.

Teaching Demonstration Intervention ($250). This is a 50 minute session online where you deliver parts of your teaching demonstration. We evaluate your delivery style, paying attention to clarity of the demonstration design and your presentation. The goal is to make sure you’re taking charge of the classroom and prepared to engage a variety of students. We’ll also cover back-up plans for your demonstration. The session includes strategies to make sure your demonstration effectively shows off your skills in the classroom.

Last, when you score that offer, I offer Negotiating Assistance. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS NEGOTIATE!
