That’s why I offer zoom consultations. I promise to listen without judgment, and give you the very best advice I can based on my years of experience, advising/ consulting on any quandaries related to the academic career. There are no wrong ideas or bad questions.
Please note:
1) live consultations like this are not the appropriate service for a job offer or negotiation! I offer very robust and immediate negotiation assistance help, but that help is always conducted by email to assure consistency and speed and protect you the client from any memory lapses on my part. I’d be delighted to work with you on your negotiation (including pre-emptive counteroffers and the like) and you can find that information here. Negotiating Assistance is my favorite work so don’t hesitate to get in touch, or ask any questions about it.
2) I prefer all career consulting clients to do a document edit with me first (either CV or cover letter) so that I have a holistic knowledge of your record before starting. The rationale for this is twofold: on the one hand, I get to know your record quickly, so I can advise you better. And on the other, clients tend to find the editing process illuminating in itself, and you will see many basic questions answered by the editing process (and get a finished doc out of it), allowing us to focus on more complex issues.
A job document edit is $180 at the untenured rate, or $220 at the tenured rate. Because this does represent an additional expense, I’ll be happy to consider exceptions to this for financial reasons!
However, if your needs and timeline are urgent, then you can skip the preliminary document editing. Especially right now, there are many emergent crises arising for academics that need rapid response.

Nica Davidov (She/her) is Associate Professor of Anthropology and Graduate Director of the MA Anthropology program at Monmouth University in New Jersey. She holds a PhD from New York University (2008) and has previously worked at Maastricht University and Leiden University in the Netherlands.
