Kel Weinhold is the founder of our productivity coaching. She began working with The Professor is In in 2014 as the interview intervention coach. Daily conversations with hundreds of scholars from across disciplines gave her real time information about the struggle of not only getting a job but keeping that job.
In 2017 she launched Unstuck: The Art of Productivity, her flagship productivity program that offers 12 steps to completing your project while rewiring your writing practice. To say it’s been a success is a serious understatement. Suffice it to say that her name and the program’s name are in the acknowledgement of no small number of books and dissertations. As part of Unstuck, Kel again had the opportunity to talk with scholars about their roadblocks and discovered that almost no one had been trained in THE key skill required for succeeding on the tenure track: writing journal articles. She reached out to developmental editor Dr. Jane Jones from Up In Consulting and together they created The Art of the Article: A self-directed, ten-module program that walks participants through writing the first draft of an academic article. Like Unstuck, AOA includes coaching videos, blog posts and access to a social media network. AND there are A BUNCH of published articles out in the world with The Art of the Article behind them.
In 2020, attempting to navigate the COVID-19 lockdown, as everyone’s fear skyrocketed and concentration plummeted, Kel created Writing in the Pandemic: Twice daily group writing sessions with a small bit of coaching. The community sessions helped participants weather the isolation that is the academy, especially during lockdown. Those sessions continue today as Writing in Community.
Kel also began offering group and one-on-one coaching sessions. Groups run on an 8 week rotations and individual sessions are booked based on schedule. If you interested in joining a group or booking an individual session, reach out to Kel directly by chat at The Next Level
In 2022, Kel held an in-person writing retreat for five of the original members of the Unstuck beta groups. During the five days on the Oregon coast, she was reminded not only how much she loves sorting out projects with people, but how critical having a community and a place for conversation is in efficiently finishing a large project. So in August, she ran her first session of the Big Project Boot Camp. The program, which puts together small groups of people to support each other in working on their projects combined with group and individual coaching from Kel, and specialized webinars aimed at big projects, provides the kind of accountability and encouragement that can make all the difference in progress. New sessions with each semester.
One more place Kel is putting her talents is in her weekly “How To” series. The small group webinars, held most Tuesdays, tackle everything from How to Outline to How to Rethink Assignments and Reduce Grading.
In 2023 in part as a response to the pandemic as well as her continuing efforts to disengage from social media that buys and sells information as the cost of play, she created a private social network on the mighty networks platform. It is there that you can get daily coaching advice at no charge, have access to her other paid programs and interact with scholars who are devoted to work life balance.
So, if you are interested in working with Kel, pop on over to The Next Level and join the conversation. Again, no charge to hang out.
