Tenure and promotion statements (this includes 3rd year review and promotion to Full) are extremely difficult. I see patterns of error in all the promotion documents I work on, including over-emotionalism, focusing on process not outcome, lecturing about the state of ones’ field, and substituting intentions and motivations for quantitative deliverables.

Candidates rarely understand the actual criteria governing promotion decisions, especially as the file moves out of the department and to upper level campus committees.

It’s my firm belief that most negative tenure decisions are the result of poor statements which did not provide the evidence needed for a positive outcome.

Here is some information: when I work on T and P docs, I edit for not just wording and style but also content–meaning, are you presenting the right content from your record to make the case for tenure in terms of evidence, are you presenting it forcefully yet without grandiosity or bragging, are you showing alignment with your institution’s criteria for tenure, and are you balancing the statements correctly for the institution with regard to the balance of research, teaching and service.

I require a complete first draft of the document.  I prefer to see the research, teaching and service statements all at the same time to evaluate and edit as a whole, unless for budgetary reasons you are only asking me to do a section, which is fine.  I then put it through 4 drafts of edits, which is generally sufficient. I promise my edits to each draft within 5 business days, and therefore require a minimum of 20 business days for T&P work. T&P work is too important to be rushed.

The cost for TP docs is $250/hour and the number of hours depends on the page length of your total document; 3-5 pages is 3 hours, 6-10 pages is 4 hours, 11-16 pages is 5 hours, and 17-22 pages is 6 hours, and so on; I apply my usual discounts: 10% discount on 3-4 hours, 15% discount on 5-9 hours,  20% discount on 10+ hours.  If you have a short deadline I may have to charge an overflow fee.
