OUR SERVICES
The Interview Intervention: A 50-minute Zoom session during which we move through a mock interview, stopping after each question to evaluate every answer for its strengths and weaknesses in terms of brevity, spin, word choice, tone, body language, etc., and refining it for effectiveness.

The Job Talk Strategy Session: A 40-minute Zoom Intervention, during which your coach will walk you through the mission, ethos, structure and goals of a Job Talk with SPECIFIC attention to your research as it relates to the job call. We will work on a section outline with guidelines on what you need to be sure to include and avoid. We will also touch briefly on presentation (powerpoint) and delivery dos and don’ts. AFTER you apply the information from this session, if you are still concerned that your job talk is incorrectly or poorly organized, you might consider The Professor is In’s Job Talk Editing service or The Job Talk Intervention.

The Job Talk Intervention: This preparation service includes an advanced read-through of your job talk script (no edits) and a 60 minute or 75 minute Live Online session during which you will deliver parts of your job talk. Your coach will stop you along the way to evaluate for strengths and weaknesses in terms of professionalism of approach, clarity, brevity, word choice, tone, body language, etc., refining for effectiveness. During the session your coach will also walk you through how to manage the treacherous Q and A after the talk–from practicing for the kinds of questions to expect, to how to handle the audience, and importantly, how to handle challenging, critical, or inappropriate questions.

The Campus Visit Intervention : A 50-minute Zoom session during which we move through the standard meetings of a campus visit, working on changing your message for different audiences as well as strategies for showcasing your fit. Just as with the Interview intervention we pay close attention to brevity, word choice, tone, body language, etc., and refining your delivery for effectiveness.

Teaching Demonstration Interventions

Teaching Demonstration Strategizing Session ($125). This 25-minute session over Zoom focuses on understanding the goals and structure of a strong teaching demonstration. We will talk specifically about your demonstration and strategize about how to most effectively use the time. You will understand how to plan a teaching demo that makes your strengths in the classroom clear. Book HERE

Teaching Demonstration
Intervention ($250). During this 50-minute session over Zoom, you deliver parts of your teaching demonstration. We create a specialized agenda that reflects the specifics of your teaching demo. We evaluate your delivery style, paying attention to clarity of the demonstration design and your presentation. The goal is to make sure you’re taking charge of the classroom and prepared to engage with a variety of students. We’ll also cover back-up plans for your demonstration. Book HERE

Reminder that we offer Negotiating Assistance for all varieties and ranks of academic job offer.
Personal Negotiating Assistance is $625/first week ($725 tenured rate), and a week is virtually always sufficient (it goes down to $525 ($625), and then $425 ($525) for subsequent weeks in the extremely rare event that this is necessary). I count the week as 7 days of work, and the days do not have to be sequential. We can start immediately. Let me know asap and I can send more info and the contract for getting started!

Demystifying the Campus Visit
Walks you through the elements of the Campus Visit/Fly-Out for online or in-person, newly updated. Explains all the major elements such as planning and prep, meetings with faculty, the Dean, the Chair, and students, the job talk, the teaching demo, etc. Provides advice and scripts for dealing successfully with all parts.
