BOOK 2ND ED UPDATE, AND EARNEST REQUEST!

By Karen Kelsky | December 10, 2025

Friends, you have successfully bought 1000 of the 2000 “extra” copies of the original The Professor Is In old version that are languishing on Amazon and blocking the new updated version from coming out! THANK YOU!!! (The excess copies were due to a mistake in order fulfillment by Crown sales, which didn’t know the new version was imminent).
But we still have 1000 more! Until approx 900 of those are sold, the update won’t go into printing/shipping. My editor says this could be another 4-5 months!
NOOOOOOO.
I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really ….REALLY
want the new version to see the light of day! It’s COMPLETELY UPDATED and reflects so much that is new and urgent about our current moment.
And so, I want to ask if you’d contribute to the effort to get the new version out by buying a copy on Amazon (and I’m sorry–it has to be Amazon, ugh).  MUCH of the concrete job document, interview, campus visit, job talk advice, as well as grant proposal advice and content about leaving academia remain entirely relevant. What has changed is more the “contextualization” and complication of advice to reflect more diverse realities.
But you will still find plenty of use in the old version, never fear.
Reminder: I’m still running my promo where if you buy one copy, I put you in a raffle for a set of Professor Is In/Professor Is Out services (doc editing/consults/etc) worth up to $360! Just send the receipt to gettenure@gmail.com.
And if you order multiple copies for your grad lounge, graduate course, group or organization, I will do a free one hour event for you! (if you order 50+ it can be a longer event!) Just get in touch to arrange, and send the receipt, to gettenure@gmail.com.
I’ve already done one such event this past fall!
My most genuine, sincere, and earnest thanks in advance for your help with this.
There is honestly much in the former version that I no longer endorse or support. I worked really really hard on the update, and almost every single page has been redone. I want the advice that’s out there in the world to accurately reflect our current conditions, and my current learning and growth.
If I had $15,000 to spend, I’d buy up all the copies myself, but I can’t. So I’m asking you.
Thank you very very much. Please share!
Karen
